Over Thanksgiving break, Dr. Jeff Amundson, assistant professor of psychology, resigned suddenly.
"Dr. Amundson resigned his position to pursue other opportunities and we wish him well," said Dr. Marilyn Frost, vice president for academic affairs.
According to Frost, Amundson's current classes have been taken over by other psychology department faculty, who have "worked to develop a completion plan that is clear and fair for students."
All psychology courses that were originally scheduled for next semester will still be offered, said Frost. In addition, former SMU professor Dr. Dan Luttmers will return from retirement to assist the department.
Frost stressed that the "well-being of our students has been, and will remain, our primary concern."
Amundson had been a professor in the psychology department at SMU since the fall of 2009, teaching courses including general psychology and biopsychology. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin-Stout, and his master's and Ph.D. from Binghamton University, State University of New York.
Amundson could not be reached for comment.
